Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted condition that is caused by the Chlamydia trachomatis bacterium. Early diagnosis is important so that proper treatment for this condition can be undertaken. Doxycycline is needed to be taken as a part of a one week course wherein the patient has to take a single pill twice every day for a period of seven days.

For women who are pregnant and suffering from this condition, with the azithromycin Chlamydia and its symptoms can be arrested. As compared to doxycycline taking azithromycin is safe for pregnant women. Once antibiotic treatment including azithromycin or doxycycline is taken retesting for this infection is not needed as the treatment is quite effective. If the symptoms persist then retesting may be needed.

Studies have shown that with azithromycin Chlamydia can not only be handled effectively but in the long run azithromycin treatment strategy is far more cost effective as compared to use of other antibiotics. Azithromycin also prevents complications.
