Correct diagnosis of this condition is important for the proper treatment. Chlamydia can be typically diagnosed through swab tests that are collected from a woman’s cervix or the urethra in the case of men. Chlamydia treatment should be given not only to the infected individual but also the sexual partners of the infected person. It is also advisable to refrain from indulging in sexual contact for a period of 7 days once the treatment is started.

Chlamydia treatment involving azithromycin can be taken in a single dose. This medicine can have some side effects like nausea and abdominal pain. Such symptoms tend to ease out in a few hours. Doxycylcine may also be taken as a part of the treatment for this condition. This medicine can be taken in a single dose that includes two capsules every day for a period of 10 days. These capsules should be taken after the meal. A common side effect associated with this medicine includes irritation in the stomach.

Doxycycline may also result in the skin becoming more sensitive towards sunlight. Direct sunlight should be avoided and it is advisable to use a sunscreen lotion. Alcohol intake should be avoided while doxycycline is taken. Using a condom while indulging in sexual intercourse can help in reducing the possibility of getting this infection. It is also advisable to be in a monogamous relationship with an uninfected individual.

If Chlamydia treatment is not taken then some other problems that can arise include premature birth. Likewise a pregnant woman infected with this condition may transmit the condition to her newborn child in the absence of treatment. Among men if treatment is not taken on time epididymitis and inflammation of rectum may be observed.
