Gonorrhea TestGonorrhea is a common sexually transmitted disease that is caused due to the neisseria gonorrhea bacteria. This bacterium can be transferred through sexual contact and it may not always result in visible symptoms. Gonorrhea test involves testing the urine or other body fluid so as to detect the bacteria. Gonorrhea testing can be done through several tests and most of these tests take sample of the body fluid that is found from the affected areas. The tests used to detect this disease include nucleic acid amplification tests. These tests detect these bacteria and also make copies of the bacteria’s genetic material. These tests include transcription mediated amplification and polymerase chain reactions and these tests are quite accurate. Either a body fluid sample from the affected area or a urine sample can be taken. Consult on gonorrhea symptoms for an earlier treatment at STD testing clinics. Molecular testing may be used for gonorrhea test. In this the genetic material or the DNA of the bacteria is detected. The body fluid from the affected area specifically from the urethra or the cervix is collected. In a gonorrhea culture test a sample of the body fluid is collected and it is then combined with some specific substances that promote growth of the gonorrhea bacterium. Such testing can also determine if the bacteria are resistant towards some antibiotics. Another method of gonorrhea testing includes the gram stain test. In this a sample of the fluid is taken from the penis or the cervix. This fluid is then put on a slide and stained by a dye and this can help in identification of the bacteria. This test is less dependable as compared to a culture or molecular testing. Another method of gonorrhea test includes the enzyme linked immunosorbent assay test or the ELISA test as it is known. In this test a sample fluid from the cervix of penis is taken. This EIA test helps in detecting substances that are responsible for triggering the immune system into fighting this infection. However this test is relatively less accurate as compared to gonorrhea culture. Along with tests gonorrhea can also be determined by identifying the symptoms associated with this condition. The symptoms include itching and bleeding after intercourse, pain during urination along with abnormal penile and vaginal discharge. |
