Gonorrhea Treatment
Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted illness that affects as many as 800,000 individuals every year. This disease can affect both women as well as men. Gonorrhea treatment should be taken on time as lack of treatment can result in complications like pelvic inflammatory disease among women. If men suffering from gonorrhea do not seek treatment on time then it can result in epididymitis. Gonorrhea treatment can be started after effective diagnosis of this condition is made. Along with the symptoms associated with this condition certain tests can help in proper diagnosis. Treatment can help in curing this infection but any damage that is already caused to the reproductive organs due to these bacteria cannot be reversed through the treatment. Before starting the gonorrhea treatment the doctor will start by taking the medical history of the concerned person. Information about the possible symptoms is taken to identify the symptoms. The doctor can then determine how long the person has been infected. In the physical examination the doctor will also try to identify all possible signs of infection that include fever, penile or vaginal discharge along with inflammation of the genital areas. The gonorrhea treatment usually includes a single dose antibiotic that is taken either in the oral form or through an injection. The antibiotics commonly prescribed for gonorrhea include cefixine, ofloxacin and ceftriaxine. If a woman suffering from gonorrhea becomes pregnant then she needs to bring this to the notice of the doctor. Likewise a person under the age of 18 suffering from gonorrhea should also notify the health professional. This is because there are some specific antibiotics that cannot be taken by individuals under the age of 18 or those women who are pregnant. The medicines prescribed as a part of gonorrhea treatment should be regularly taken. The medication should be taken even if the infected person is not experiencing any symptoms. It is also advisable to abstain from sex till the time the infected person is cured. Pelvic inflammatory disease which can be one of the complications can result in scarring of the reproductive organs. A large dose of penicillin may also be used as a treatment of gonorrhea. |
