HPV Penis




Hume papillomavirus is a common infection that affects a large number of individuals. There are in excess of 40 hpv types and these can be transmitted through sexual contact including vaginal, oral and anal sex. In hpv penis is usually affected with warts erupting in areas of the penis as well as the anus.

Among men the hpv condition may not result in symptoms but in some cases genital warts are commonly observed. In some other serious cases with hpv penis and anal cancer may also be observed. Around 1% of men who are sexually active tend to get genital warts at some point of time. Penile cancer along with anal cancer is relatively uncommon among men particularly those that have healthy immunity.

Bisexual and gay men are more likely to get anal cancer as compared to heterosexual men. With hpv penis warts are commonly experienced. These warts may also erupt in other regions like the testicles, thighs, groin and anus. These warts may be flat or raised and are also shaped like cauliflower. These warts usually don’t hurt and appear around weeks or months after sexual intercourse or contact with a person who is infected.

Anal bleeding, discharge and pain or itching along with swelling of lymph nodes in the groin region can be a sign of anal cancer. Penile cancer may also cause some symptoms like changes in the color of penis or penile tissue build up. Sores on penis that bleed and are painful may also signify towards a possible cancer condition and should be examined and tested. In hpv penis is affected with warts and so visual examination of the warts can help in diagnosing this condition.

The warts in this condition can be treated with patient applied medication or these can also be removed through surgery and in some cases they may also be frozen off. In most cases even in the absence of treatment the warts go away. Hpv penis and anal cancer may need treatment like surgery, chemotherapy or radiation.

Using condoms can help in reducing the possibility of transmitting this condition but condoms do not provide complete coverage. So condoms cannot provide complete protection. Indulging in sexual contact in a mutually monogamous relationship with someone who is not infected is the best way to prevent this infection.
