HPV TreatmentAs against other sexually transmitted infections hpv is an infection that does not have a set or universal treatment. Hpv treatment for most hpv cases can be implemented only if abnormal changes in the cervix are observed or genital warts occur. Changes in the cervix can be identified through Pap smear. In many cases the symptoms associated with hpv tend to clear up on their own. Hpv treatment is not designed for elimination of the hpv virus. However there is a vaccine that is available at present to prevent strains related with anal and genital cancers and 2 other common strains that result in warts. So this can be one of the options that can be exercised as a part of treatment for this infection. Hpv treatment depends on the kind of hpv virus that a person has contracted. If the virus contracted is a low risk virus causing genital warts then the warts can be easily removed through treatment either at home or at the physician’s office. In case the hpv type is high risk causing cervical, genital or anal cancer then the treatment will be based on the condition. If a person has multiple warts or the warts are too bulky then the physician may recommend certain methods for removal of the warts. Cryotherapy can be a part of the hpv treatment. In this treatment the warts are frozen using liquid nitrogen and the response to this treatment is quite good. Another treatment includes using creams like Imiquimod or Aldara and this cream stimulates the immune system and helps fight the virus responsible for causing the warts. Hpv treatment also includes laser treatment that helps destroy the lesions caused by this condition. However this can be expensive and healing may take some time. In electrodessication an electric current may be used to destroy the warts. Pre cancerous lesions are detected with the help of a Pap test. These pre cancerous lesions can be treated with loop electrosurgical excision procedure. If the diagnosis of a patient is of cervical cancer then it may be treated by removal of uterus or in other cases surgery and radiation may be employed for the treatment. |
