Oral Gonorrhea
Gonorrhea is an infection that can be sexually transmitted and is caused by the nerisseria gonorrhea bacteria. This infection has an incubation period of 1 week to around 1 month. This infection can affect the uterus, cervix, urethra, testes and bladder along with throat and anus. When the infection affects the throat of a person it is called oral gonorrhea. Typical symptoms associated with this condition include penile or vaginal discharge, pain along with burning during urination. Men may experience testicular swelling and this infection may also include pain following intercourse along with possible bleeding. In some cases where the condition affects the anus the infected person may experience anal discharge along with mucus or blood in the stools. Oral gonorrhea symptoms include inflammation of the throat. This form of gonorrhea is normally not as infectious to other people as the other forms. However if a person infected with oral gonorrhea gives oral sex to another individual it can result in transmission of this infection. This is particularly true as the bacteria in this case reside in the mouth and the back area of a person’s throat. The best way to prevent gonorrhea is by using condoms for all forms of sexual intercourse including oral sex. In most cases of oral gonorrhea the symptoms are completely similar to a sore throat. It is important to understand that gonorrhea is also called the great imitator as the symptoms associated with this condition are similar to some other common illnesses. It is therefore entirely important for a person suspecting gonorrhea to reveal his/her sexual history to the medical health professional. While an oral gonorrhea infection does not affect the tongue and the mouth it does affect the throat and this condition is also called pharyngeal gonorrhea. In many cases the patients do not experience any visible symptoms associated with this form of gonorrhea and it does not spread so easily. However this infection also tends to painful in some cases and can cause tonsillitis. People experiencing extreme sore throat around one week after oral sex may be suffering from this condition. |
