Std statistics reveal the figures of individuals suffering from these infections. However the data and information available in United States about std infections is rather inadequate. The centre for disease control indicates that around 19 million cases of new std infections are reported in United States every year. A more alarming aspect of this information is the fact that almost 50% of these cases include individuals in the age group of 15 to 24.

Std statistics also indicate that among the new infections half of the people suffering from these infections are teenagers. With proper education and information a large amount of these infections can be reduced. The number of cases of gonorrhea has more or less remained the same over the past six years however the number of syphilis cases has increased a great deal.

In fact the reporting for std infections like syphilis and gonorrhea began in the year 1941 and that for Chlamydia only began in 1984. Chlamydia is also a std infection that is affecting a number of individuals in the age group of 15 to 24. In fact the number of Chlamydia cases increased to 1,030,911 from 976, 445. But these are perhaps only the reported cases and many health care institutions believe the number could be as high as 2.8 million cases every year.

Teenage girls are three times more likely to suffer from Chlamydia as compared to teenage boys. There is not much reporting related to genital herpes and genital warts. Std statistics also reveal that greater number of females are infected with std infections as compared to males. For gonorrhea rate of infection among women was as high as 123.5 for every 100,000 cases as against 113.5 for men.

Std statistics often show larger number of females are infected with these infections as compared to men. In the year 2007 the number of men diagnosed with syphilis included 9886 while the number of women with syphilis was 1752. Syphilis is the only infection in which more men are infected as compared to women. It could be because syphilis outbreaks are observed in men having sex with other men.

The rate of Chlamydia infection has increased from 205.5 for every 100,000 cases to 370.2 in the year 2007. The increase in the number of Chlamydia cases can be attributed to improvements in the screening and reporting systems. A study along with std statistics presented in the year 2008 has revealed that as many as 26% of American women in the age group of 14 to 19 suffer from at least one of four common stds.

The std statistics reveal that as many as 3.2 million female teenagers suffer from some std infection. The human papilloma virus is a widespread form of std infection and around 18% of women suffer from it while Chlamydia is detected in 4% young women. Many African Americans are severely affected and around 48% of African American women suffer from some form of std infection. Around 20% of white women have a std infection.
