Sexually transmitted diseases as the name suggests can be transferred by way of sexual contact. However these diseases can be transmitted not on through sexual intercourse but also through oral genital contact, use of sexual toys like vibrators and kissing as well. The treatment for syphilis is dependent on the stage of the disease along with the clinical manifestations associated with this disease.

Std treatment for syphilis includes penicillin injections that are long acting. These injections can be effective for treating this condition in its early as well as later stages. In the case of neurosyphilis the penicillin may be required to be administered intravenously. Alternative treatments for this problem include taking oral medications like tetracycline or doxycycline.

In pregnant women having syphilis penicillin is required to be used as other antibiotics cannot effectively cross placenta so that the infected fetus is treated. Std treatment for herpes include antiviral medication like famciclovir, acyclovir and valacyclovir. There is no permanent cure for herpes but these medicines help in reducing the severity of the symptoms and also increase the time gap between outbreaks.

There is no complete cure for HPV infection and the treatment for this infection includes removal of lesions. However the removal of warts may not necessarily stop the virus from spreading and the problem of genital warts may recur. Treatment for genital warts includes using 0.5% podofilox gel or solution that is to be applied to the warts. Std treatment for problems like pubic lice include application of 1% permethrin cream rinse. Scabies can be treated with Permethrin 5% cream. In some cases ivermectic drug which is to be taken orally has also been successful in treating scabies.
