Syphilis RashSyphilis which is a sexually transmitted infection is rather common. This infection can be transmitted through direct contact with the infected area or sexual contact with an infected person. The bacteria causing this infection are called treponema pallidum. Syphilis rash is one of the symptoms commonly observed in this infection. Syphilis infection progresses in stages and the syphilis rash is often one of the most important symptoms observed in this infection. Once a person is infected the symptoms related to the first stage are seen in a period of one week to around three months after the infection. The first two stages of this disease are extremely contagious. In the first stage the primary infection is not as widespread as in the case of a syphilis rash. In the first stage a person normally gets a painless round bump that is rather firm and red. In some cases more than one chancre may be observed. Such ulcers may be observed in genital areas and also other regions like the tongue, lips and mouth. The sores in the first stage tend to heal in one or two months even without any treatment. However treatment at this stage is extremely crucial as lack of treatment can result in complications. Syphilis rash is the most important symptom in the second stage of this infection. This rash is normally rough and consists of reddish brown spots. The syphilis rash may be observed in any region on the body but is mainly observed on the palms of hands or on the bottom of feet. This rash is not itchy and may be faint and not entirely noticeable. Other symptoms that accompany rash include hair loss that may occur in patches. Patients may also experience fever, tiredness, weight loss, headaches and muscle aches. The rash may also appear grayish white on some areas like the inner thigh, groin, and armpits and under the breasts. This rash normally disappears following treatment and in the absence of treatment the disease will progress. After the secondary stage of this infection passes the infection enters the latent stage and this can last for a long time. It is important that the syphilis rash is not confused for other skin conditions. This may occur in some cases as the rash may be quite faint and may not be completely noticeable. However the other symptoms that may accompany the rash in the secondary stage of this infection may convince a person to seek medical intervention. |
